Best Dog Friendly Getaways in OC (By Neighborhood)

When it comes to traveling with your dog, it can be difficult to find places that welcome your furry best friend. Generally, when planning a getaway, you'd have to leave your dog behind. There is hope though. We've put together a list of the best spots to bring your furry friend when you take that next getaway.

Dana Point

Though there are no dogs allowed on the beaches in Dana Point, the walking paths in the harbor and around Salt Creek beach, as well as in the canyons make-up for it. Can't get away without fido? Dogs are allowed in the camping and picnic area at Doheny State Beach as well. And at Yappy Hour at The Ritz Carlton, Laguna Niguel, dogs slurp bacon flavored water alongside their well-heeled owners.

Laguna Beach

Leashed dogs and their owners can roam the famed beaches of Laguna Beach any time from September 11th to June 14th. And, from June 15th to September 10th, you can still bring your dog, but the hours are reduced to before 9am and after 6pm. Beyond the beach, check out the public walking path at Montage Laguna Beach where dogs of all sizes and their owners meet up for leisurely strolls that lead around the cliff top and down to the ocean. Don't let your pooch miss the special water fountains for four-legged friends either!

Huntington Beach

Of all the neighborhoods in Orange County, Huntington Beach is by far the most dog-friendly beach. If you've ever seen a dog surfing, there's a good chance it was here. Canines catch frisbees, play in the waves and sunbathe on the sands of the surfing capital of the world from 5am- 10pm without hassle. While official ordinances at Dog Beach state that dogs must be leashed, you'll see well behaved dogs off-leash. Dog Beach runs from 21st Street to Seapoint in North Huntington Beach. If you're looking for a place to stay, the Shorebreak Hotel offers a no pet fee. You can't beat that!

Disneyland Resort hotels doesn't accept pets, but you can stay at a Disneyland good neighbor hotel that does and board your pet at the Disneyland Kennel Club while you're at the park. The kennel is on a first-come, first-served basis and at $20 per pet per day, it makes for a great deal. Owners are responsible for handling and feeding pets so it's recommended that you check in every few hours to walk or feed your dog. Owners must show proof that their pets have the vaccinations listed on the website to gain entrance into the kennel.

Newport Beach

Pampered pooches stroll the outdoor walkways at Fashion Island in search of muttropolis, the ultimate in luxe doggie apparel and treats. After a day at the mall, they head to the beaches of Newport Beach and Corona del Mar where they can roam on a leash before 10 a.m. and after 4:30 p.m. The Island Hotel accepts dogs under 50 pounds and is just steps away from Fashion Island.
