Bell Mayor Released From Jail On $250K Bond
BELL (AP) — Bell Mayor Oscar Hernandez has been released from jail after spending nearly a week behind bars following his arrest on corruption charges.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says Hernandez posted a $250,000 bond and was freed at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Hernandez, former city manager Robert Rizzo and six other current and former Bell leaders were arrested last Tuesday. They're accused of misappropriating $5.5 million from the tiny Los Angeles suburb. Their enormous salaries sparked public outrage and led some officials to resign.
Rizzo, City Councilman George Mirabal and former councilman Victor Bello remain jailed.
The others were freed after posting bonds ranging from $120,000 to $350,000.
