Behind The Pages Of Denny Strigl's 'Managers, Can You Hear Me Now?'

STUDIO CITY (CBS) — Happy employees don't make good results; good results make happy employees. This is one of the rules that helped Denny Strigl to transform Verizon Wireless from a regional carrier into a billion-dollar behemoth during his time as president and CEO.

Strigl stopped by KCAL9 Tuesday to talk about his new book "Managers, Can You Hear Me Now?"

The book is described as a "no-spin" guide for leaders who are ready to drive results, develop people and build careers in today's hyper-competitive business environment.

Strigl shares the skills and techniques he used to build Verizon into one of the greatest growth companies in any industry—and shows how to put them into practice.

• Master the Four Fundamentals of Management: growing revenue, getting new customers, keeping the customers you already have, and eliminating costs

• Stop doing things that don't matter (that don't contribute to the four fundamentals)

• Bureaucracy is enemy number one of a healthy work culture

• Get past "blind spots," reinforce priorities consistently, and communicate with clarity

• Every conversation with an employee has the potential to be a coaching conversation

• Don't put yourself in email jail---managing by email is an ineffective way to manage

• Teams need to plan less and execute more

• Give employees real work opportunities to enhance their own self-esteem

• Learn the importance of communicating clearly and concisely, and how to do it

• Discover why the number of hours you work in a day is of little importance, why and what to do about it
