LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A judge on Friday rejected a bail reduction request for Los Angeles County Assessor John Noguez, who faces charges of misappropriation of public funds and other counts.
Noguez - along with tax consultant Ramin Salari and assessor Mark McNeil - was arrested in October for allegedly lowering property tax bills for campaign contributors.
His bail was ordered to remain at $1.16 million.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Shelly Torrealba refused a request to lower bail for Noguez on Oct. 23, saying she did not believe Noguez should be treated differently than any other defendant.
District Attorney Steve Cooley has said the charges against Noguez mark the biggest case of public corruption he has seen in his 40-year career.
Noguez is due back in court Feb. 28.
