Armed Boy, 14, Fatally Shot By Officers In Santa Ana
SANTA ANA (CBS) — A 14-year-old boy armed with a gun was fatally shot by police officers Thursday night.
Santa Ana police say Jose Rodriguez, Jr. called 911 several times Thursday night to report a man with a gun in the 400 block of East Wisteria Place.
When officers arrived on scene around 10:40 p.m., they found Rodriguez in the street, armed with pistol-gripped shotgun, Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.
Rodriguez pointed the weapon at police, prompting the officer-involved shooting, Bertagna said.
The teen was taken to a local trauma center where he died shortly after midnight Friday, police said.
After obtaining a search warrant for the boy's room, officers discovered a suicide note, according to Bertagna. Its contents were not made public.
Rodriguez was a freshman at Segerstrom High School in Santa Ana and had no criminal record, according to authorities.
No officers were injured in the incident.
The shooting is under investigation.
