Cleanup Efforts Underway To Remove Transformer Oil After Deadly Crash In Arleta

ARLETA (CBSLA.com) — Cleanup efforts were underway Thursday to remove transformer oil from the site of a deadly traffic collision in Arleta.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the crash took place around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 13700 block of Osborn Street near Arleta Avenue.

Firefighters said an 18-year-old man lost control of his pickup truck and slammed into a power pole in the area. Three large transformers then fell on top of his vehicle, subsequently killing him.

The victim's identity is being withheld pending family notification.

Authorities had to de-energize the transformers in order for rescue workers to tear into the wreckage to remove the victim from the vehicle.

According to LAPD Sgt. Randy Modrell, a nearby collision with minor injuries may have been a contributing factor as to why the victim lost control of his truck.

The cause of crash remains under investigation.
