An alleged DUI driver has been arrested after a crash that left a Hemet city employee dead earlier this week.

The crash happened Thursday a little before 8 a.m. on Acacia Avenue near Kirby Street, according to Hemet Police Department officers.

According to investigators, the suspect was traveling westbound on Acacia when they crashed into the victim's municipal truck, killing him. He has been identified as 40-year-old Hemet man Derek Holt. He was a Hemet Department of Public Works employee.

California Highway Patrol officers who were also called to the scene detained the suspect, 27-year-old Menifee man Noah Anthony Zapata. Because the investigation involved a municipal vehicle, CHP officers were called, HPD said.

The suspect was taken into custody after detectives determined that he was allegedly driving under the influence at the time of the crash. He was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injury.

No further information was provided.
