90-Year-Old Rossmoor Woman Victim Of Home Invasion Robbery

ROSSMOOR (CBS) — A 90-year-old woman was mugged in Rossmoor today by two men who tied her up in her home and ransacked it while stealing some of her valuables, an Orange County sheriff's spokesman said.

When the unidentified woman went outside about 11 a.m. to get her newspaper, KCAL9's Michele Gile reports she was confronted by two men. As one wielded a handgun that he put against her neck, she was ordered her back inside her home in the 11600 block of Weatherby Road, said Jim Amormino of the sheriff's department.

They tied her to a chair and covered her face with a towel, and one of the men watched her while his partner ransacked the home looking for valuables, Amormino said. The men also took bracelets, chains and rings from the victim, ripping her blouse in the process, he said.

One of the rings stolen, said Gile, was an heirloom that had been in the victim's family for 100 years.

The suspects made their getaway in a small, compact white pickup truck, Amormino said.

The men are both described as Latinos in their 20s, about 5-foot-4 to 5-foot-6. One of the men wore plastic surgical gloves and the other had black gloves with white snowflakes on them, Amormino said.

"She's shook up, but not physically hurt," Amormino said of the victim.

After the men fled, the victim summoned help by pushing her Life Alert pendant.

Anyone with information was asked to call 855-TIP-OCCS, the Orange County Crime Stoppers organization.
