8 people rescued from assisted living facility fire in Glendale

Glendale firefighters rescued eight people from an assisted living facility engulfed in flames on Friday.

Six residents, one staff member and a neighbor who ran to help were taken to the hospital, according to the Glendale Fire Department. All were hospitalized with minor injuries.

Firefighters said the home will be red-tagged, and the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

"It is now an active investigation," Fire Chief Jeff Brooks said. "The fire has been fully suppressed. Arson investigators will determine that during the course of the investigation."

The senior home, called Mountain Villa, is a six-bedroom, four-bath facility tucked into a neighborhood along the Glendale foothills. State inspectors visited the home in March and reported that the facility had working smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and that the staff and residents were up to date on fire drills.

Narek and Alex Bazinyan live a couple of doors down from the senior home and saw the smoke.

"A nurse ran out and said 'Help! Help! Help!" Narek Bazinyan recalled.

The two raced in to help as firefighters arrived to the scene.

"I just see a bunch of people on the floor. I see fire everywhere, black smoke," Alex Bazinyan said.
