7 Arrested During Prostitution Sting In Riverside

RIVERSIDE ( — Seven suspects were arrested last week during an undercover prostitution sting, the Riverside Police Department announced Tuesday.

The operation, which took place over an eight-hour period on Friday, targeted the areas of University Avenue and Fairmount Boulevard, as well as Magnolia Avenue and Park Sierra Drive.

The locations were chosen after business owners and citizens in the area reported females loitering for prostitution, according to the department.

"During the operation, female officers worked in an undercover capacity and were solicited for prostitution," the department said in a press release.

An eighth suspect was for interfering and obstructing officers.

Adults arrested on suspicion of solicitation for prostitution could face a $600 fine and up to 36 months of probation, or jail time. They must also enroll in an AIDS education program.

The department was assisted by the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control during the sting.
