945-Acre Gilman Fire Now 75 Percent Contained
MORENO VALLEY (CBS/AP) — Firefighters in Moreno Valley continue to battle a wildfire that has burned at least 945 acres and briefly trapped about 50 drivers when it jumped a freeway.
Aircraft resumed water-dropping runs Sunday over the blaze burning in a rugged area of Riverside County known as the San Timoteo Badlands.
The fire is 75 percent contained and officials say they expect it will be fully surrounded by Sunday evening.
The brush fire broke out around 4 p.m. Saturday just south of State Route 60 and north of Gilman Springs.
The CHP told Rachel Kim, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, that the blaze left over 100 drivers stranded when the flames crossed the lanes of Highway 60. They were stuck as crews fought the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
