57-Year-Old Jurupa Valley Mother And Her Kids Allegedly Go On Holiday Crime Spree
JURUPA VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a Jurupa Valley mother and her two children went on a holiday shoplifting crime spree.
The trio are accused of stealing $4,500 in merchandise from an Eastvale Best Buy, Kohl's and Target.
Lt. Michael Yates of the Eastvale police told CBS2 and KCAL9 reporter Greg Mills that he is not used to seeing mother/children crime families. In this case, he said, "It's the mother, the daughter and the son."
Mills says 34-year-old Tracy Yrigoyen and her 37-year-old brother William Yrigoyen are both in custody.
Their mom, 57-year-old Dorothy, who was reportedly involved in the stealing spree is not behind bars. Explains Yates, "Mom was not taken into custody due to her medical condition."
At the Best Buy, an employee told Mills that the Kindle Fire Notebook is a very popular must-have item this season.
It was apparently also popular with the Yrigoyens. Officials say they stole 13 of them -- total value $2,600.
Authorities told Mills the Yrigoyens used a wheelchair as a prop to distract store employees. One of the kids would push the wheelchair -- meanwhile the others would toss items into the chair or a large purse.
Reportedly, someone working at Best Buy spotted the trio earlier in the day and became suspicious when they saw them also "shopping" the same afternoon.
The employee ran out of the store and flagged down an Eastvale police officer.
Police said stolen items from all three stores were recovered in the family's truck.
