Police are searching for a group of thieves who stole $20 million worth of gold from a downtown Los Angeles jewelry store.

The store owner's son said the burglars broke into a vacant property adjacent to his family's store, Love Jewels, around 10 p.m. Sunday night.

While the crew avoided cameras, security footage captured the sound of what appears to be a saw or drill cutting through the wall. The burglary did not trigger the store's alarm, according to the family. He added that this is the second time that someone has used the vacant building to break into their jewelry store.

"They drilled a hole in the back and had a bunch of heavy equipment," the store owner's son said.

The thieves stayed in the store for hours, smashing into display cases and emptying the family's safe, which was filled with $20 million worth of gold, according to the owners.

"They cleared out everything," the store owner's son said. "They didn't leave a dollar for us."

The Los Angeles Police Department said they responded to the store the following morning to document the losses.

The family didn't have insurance for the stolen jewelry. They are offering a $100,000 reward for any information about the burglary.

"I just want to see justice and somebody get brought down for this," the store owner's son said.
