Newport Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Newport Beach was fined $100,000 and Emeritus at Yorba Linda was fined $90,000, according to the California Department of Public Health.
State officials found that the Newport Beach nursing home failed to provide adequate safety measures and supervision, which led to the death of a patient.
A state investigation determined that an Emeritus patient choked and later died because they weren't served the diet they were prescribed.
