2 Hikers Rescued In Griffith Park After Becoming Stranded On Steep Hill

GRIFFITH PARK ( — Two hikers had to be rescued off a very steep hill in Griffith Park Sunday.

LA City Fire said the rescue call came in about 11:30 a.m.

Two climbers had been climbing up a steep hill but got stuck. They were unable to climb down so they called out for help.

A Urban Search and Rescue unit did a land-rope rescue.

Brittney Hopper, reporting for CBS2, said they also brought in two helicopters.

The hikers were not injured.

One of the hikers talked to Hopper after their ordeal was over.

"We thought we would try something new, hiking up. We got stuck. We were terrified. We called out for help," said Rachel Santos.

Fire officials warn hikers to always stay on a trail, always to hike with a buddy and to have a fully-charged call phone. Also, they say it's a good idea to tell someone where you will be hiking.

Authorities told Hopper they had three hiking-related incidents prior to the 11:30 a.m. rescue.
