2 LA Coliseum Employees Charged With Embezzlement
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles prosecutors have charged two former Memorial Coliseum employees with conspiring to embezzle more than $3,800 from the payroll system.
The city attorney's office said Wednesday that 33-year-old former warehouse employee Ulises Luna and 38-year-old payroll clerk Maria De La Torre are named in the multi-count complaint. If convicted, each faces up to three years in jail plus restitution.
Luna was laid off last year but allegedly conspired with De La Torre to continue having checks processed in his name and delivered to him in exchange for splitting the funds with De La Torre, who has since resigned and repaid $1,500 to the Coliseum Commission.
The Coliseum has been surrounded with scandal recently. Former general manager Patrick Lynch and five others were indicted on corruption charges earlier this year.
