2-Alarm Fire Reported At Apartment Complex In Redondo Beach

REDONDO BEACH (CBSLA.com)  —  A tw0-alarm fire was reported Saturday afternoon at a three-story apartment complex in Redondo Beach, authorities said.

Firefighters reported the fire -- reported around 3 p.m. -- was completely knocked down with the help of 58 firefighters and four different agencies.

The apartment complex is located at Prospect Avenue and Camino Real, officials said.

Sky2 was overhead and captured images of smoke pouring out of the building's roof.

KCAL9's Brittney Hopper reported from the scene.

She said dozens of residents were displaced by the blaze.

"It was the biggest fire I've seen in Redondo Beach since the Pier caught on fire in the late 80s, " said neighbor Andrew Lesser.

Residents could only watch as firefighters tried to get a handle on the fire that was knocked down after 4:30 p.m.

"It's shocking," said one woman, "it's something you don't expect. It's something you definitely don't anticipate."

Fire officials told Hopper the blaze spread quickly through many units.

Witnesses said flames and smoke could be seen for miles.

"Every time they cut the roof," said Lesser, it seemed the fire would keep moving through the attic."

Hopper reported that no one was injured -- everyone, including pets, got out safely.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
