190-Acre Shoemaker Fire Above Glendora Nearly Contained
GLENDORA (CBSLA.com) — A 190-acre fire in the Angeles National Forest above Glendora is expected to be completely extinguished Tuesday, a U.S. Forest Service spokesman said.
The Shoemaker Fire broke out near East Fork Road and Glendora Mountain Road in the East Fork/Heaton Flat area at 12:48 p.m. Thursday, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
"The flames are out and we are mainly putting in the rest of the fire line and mopping up," U.S. Forest Service spokesman Nathan Judy said.
Firefighters are putting out flare-ups and clearing the last 10 percent of vegetation around the fire's perimeter, a process estimated to be complete sometime Tuesday, he said.
About 300 firefighters remain assigned to the incident, according to the Forest Service. Four firefighters were injured, with two suffering from the heat, one with a cut to the head and another with a possible hernia, Judy said.
The fire was burning in a steep, remote area and was fueled by brush and chaparral.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
