12 Free Things To Do In L.A. This November 2016

With Thanksgiving on the horizon, a lot of the focus is on turkey day, but there are plenty of activities leading up to that day and after. The following is a list of the best events throughout the month which you can take part in at no cost!

Starting at 8pm, the 1949 film Criss Cross will be screened at Union Station as part of their Film Noir series. The film tells the story of a man who goes to Los Angeles to find his old love. Problems come up when she's found to be married to a mobster, though.

Los Angeles' newest contemporary art museum named for philanthropist Eli Broad will be offering free general admission for their "Creature" exhibit. The installation fills the museum's first-floor galleries with more than 50 works. Ranging from artworks that examine the human body, to others that suggest a physical presence outside of the artwork itself, The Broad Museum's Creature exhibit offers an array of views through which to see the human experience, some that are scientifically based and others which draw inspiration from cultural representations of how living things change over time.

Today, The Grove will present its dynamic holiday showcase with a preshow at 7pm, followed by a 1 hour live show hosted by comedian Seth Macfarlane. Featuring special guests like Lea Michele and Rachel Platten, there will be a performance with a live orchestra and chorus. The evening will offer up free entertainment for the whole family to enjoy, including the season's first snowfall, the lighting of the christmas tree, the arrival of Santa Claus and a great fireworks finale.

On November 20th at 10am, visit Mariachi Plaza for the 26th Annual Mariachi Festival. Guests will be amazed at the terrific Mariachi suiting, as well as music. For the past 25 years, this venue has been the meeting place for mariachis. Be part of history and their musical history by experiencing a full day of free performances.

It always feels good to do good, so before you enjoy a feast with your family, why not head to Central Park in Pasadena and be a part of someone else's celebration. Union Station Homeless Services will once again host their annual Thanksgiving Dinner in the Park, providing thousands of holiday meals for all who attend. The dinner has been going strong for 45 years, and is a great way to help those in need. You must register ahead of time, and if you can't make it but would still like to help, store bought pies will be accepted before the event, or dropped off at the park Thanksgiving morning.

The Hollywood Christmas Parade is as much a part of Los Angeles as some of the city's most iconic landmarks. For the 84th year, this annual parade will feature floats, balloons, terrific musical bands, horses and celebrities as they ride a route which will start at Hollywood and Orange and will commence at Sunset and Orange. The event is hosted by Erik Estrada and Laura McKenzie.

Museums including: The Getty, LACMA, Autry National Center, California Science Center, Hammer Museum, MOCA, The Broad Museum, Norton Simon Museum, Huntington Library, Art Collections & Botanical Gardens, Getty Villa, Fowler Museum, Wende Museum, Kidspace Children's Museum, Pacific Asia Museum, Museum of Latin American Art, The Griffith Observatory, The Hollywood Bowl Museum, Los Angeles Maritime Museum and others

Ongoing throughout the year, almost all of Los Angeles' top museums either offer complete free admission or free admission on certain days. The newest museum of L.A., The Broad, offers free admission with reservations; The Getty Center is free; LACMA offers free admission on every second Tuesday of the month and on certain holidays. It's also free after 3pm Monday-Friday for L.A. County residents. At The Museum of Contemporary Art, you can enter for free every Thursday from 5pm - 8pm, and you can visit the Huntington Library, Art Collections & Botanical Gardens for free on the first Thursday of the month. The Getty Villa offers free admission, as does The Torrance Art Museum, The Hammer Museum in Westwood, The California Science Center, The L.A. Maritime Museum, The Hollywood Bowl Museum, The Griffith Observatory, The Annenberg Space for Photography, Velaslavasay Panorama, The Fowler Museum, The Wende Museum, the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust and many others.
 
Museums with certain conditions include The Kidspace Children's Museum, which is free for the first Tuesday of every month from 4pm to 8pm; the Pacific Asia Museum, which is free for every second Sunday of every month; The Norton Simon Museum, free every first Friday of the month from 5pm to 8pm; The Skirball Cultural Center, free every Thursday; many others.

Make sure not to miss out on Monday night residences at The Satellite in Silverlake where you can see some up and coming L.A. bands for free. The Echo is also free every Monday for all up-and-coming local bands taking the stage. And, if you haven't had enough, visit School Night on Monday's for free at Bardot's courtyard lounge. Residencies at The Bootleg in Echo Park also offer free admission.
