Sweet Smell Of Smoked BBQ Causing A Stink In The Colony

THE COLONY (CBSDFW.COM) — The smell of smoked barbeque is causing a big stink in The Colony.

Located off of 121 in the Grandscape development, Hard Eight BBQ is known for its super smoky meats prepared using wood coals in the "old German-style" way of cooking. But to achieve its fall-off-the-bone, tasty barbeque delights, the restaurant uses a smoke stack.

And it's the smoke coming out of that smoke stack that has residents heated.

"It gets all in your hair. You pick up your cats from inside your garage and it's all there and even inside of your house," said homeowner Kim Clark, who lives a mile away from the eatery.

Clark is one of many residents trying to rally in hopes of getting The Colony city officials to do something about the smoky smell disrupting supper time.

But city officials said the restaurant isn't in any violation of any regulations or city ordinance.

Chad Decker is the co-owner of Hard 8 BBQ - The Colony. He said they produce BBQ smoke throughout the day using "the Old World way of preparing meat."

Smoke is a necessary evil -- an essential part of the process of smoking barbeque... any Texan knows that. That said,  Decker is sympathetic toward resident's concerns; willing to do whatever he can to reasonably appease those complaining.

"We certainly do and will work with the city's guidelines to make sure we hold up our end of the deal," he said.

Neighbors plan to collect a petition regarding the smoke.

Hard Eight BBQ opened its doors to The Colony in May.
