Shoppers "Poppin' Tags" Good Business For Texas Non-Profits

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - An ode to bargain shopping is the biggest song on radio and it's also proving to be good business for one Texas non-profit organization.

Around these here parts they're generally known as yard sales, garage sales and resale shops. But the song Thrift Shop, by rapper Macklemore and his producer Ryan Lewis, is about finding deals to wear to the party at second hand stores.

Workers at some Goodwill locations in Texas say the song is spurring a renewed interest in their stores. "We hear buzz about people "poppin' tags" in our stores and that's the catch line," one worker said.

And just like the song goes, shoppers say they can find a lot for $20. One woman said, "I've found purses and stuff like that for $3.99 sometimes."

Reflecting back on past purchases of $20 or less, one man said, "You can come out of here with like a trash bag full of a bunch of stuff."

The numbers for the song Thrift Shop are anything but bargain basement. The song has been number one on iTunes, number one on Billboard's Top 100 and has been viewed more than 100,000,000 times on YouTube.
