PD Releases New Details On Frisco Couple Found Dead
FRISCO (CBS 11 NEWS) - Frisco police said inside the house on Mountain View Lane, they found 43-year-old Sumeet Dhawan with signs of blunt force trauma to the head.
During a news conference Friday, Assistant Police Chief Darren Stevens said, "Mr. Dhawan my understanding was that he was found in a downstairs bedroom, on the bed."
Stevens said, Dhawan's 39-year-old wife, Pallavi, showed no signs of trauma. "Pallavi Dhawan was found in the pool. There's no indication how she ended up here or how long she had been there."
Police say they still don't know what led to the couple's deaths, and may never know.
"This is a terrible, terrible tragedy this family is going through," said Stevens. "Detectives are going to have to do as they do in all cases, is build the information, take a look at where the facts take them, and see what they can figure out and see if they can piece together what happened. Keep in mind, this is one that's entirely possible we may never get those answers."
Detectives say they found a note, but are still reviewing what it says and trying to figure out who wrote it.
Last January, police found the couple's 10-year-old son, Arnav, dead in a bathtub. Police arrested Mrs. Dhawan for murder, but a grand jury was still considering whether to indict her.
The family insisted their son died after having a seizure, and pointed to the autopsy which said the boy likely died of natural causes.
The couple insisted Pallavi Dhawan was trying to preserve her son's body in line with their Hindu faith until her husband returned home from an overseas business trip. Now, police say the criminal case against Mrs. Dhawan will be closed.
The couple and their attorney, David Finn, had criticized how police handled the case, and now the department has asked the Texas Rangers help investigate the couple's deaths.
Assistant Chief Stevens said, "That is one of the reasons the Texas Rangers have been asked to assist because I don't want any appearances of anything other than transparency."
Frisco police Deputy Chief David Shilson said the case has shocked not only the couple's relatives, but their detectives too.
"These investigators are human too," he said. "This is pretty devastating, I can't imagine to the family, but it's also been a devastating blow to investigators."
Police released a statement from the Dhawan family that said:
"We are devastated by the continued tragic loss to our family. In this time of unimaginable sorrow, we would like to grieve with our family and friends, and request everyone to respect our privacy. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers."
