New Food Trucks Rolling Into Dallas

Food trucks are a relatively new trend in this part of the world, but with new ones popping up around town every month or so, mobile food may soon be as ubiquitous in North Texas as they are in New York City, serving up afternoon snacks and late-night eats to alfresco diners.

Nammi Truck, a mobile Vietnamese kitchen that serves bahn mi sandwiches, recently made its debut at the Deep Ellum Market and the CityArts Festival. Aside from Vietnamese sandwiches, customers also sampled Vietnamese-style tacos and spring rolls from the Nammi menu. Follow their Twitter to find out their next stop.

Gandolfo's Deli Sanwiches, a food truck serving up New York-style sandwiches (pastrami, hot dogs and even vegetarian options), also recently got on the road. Their first location was in a parking lot behind an AT&T office building off of Empire Central. Sandwich fanatics are hoping the truck's next stop would be less out-of-the-way. They're currently taking location suggestions on their Facebook page, so log on and let them know where you would want that pastrami served.

Jack's Chowhound is another culinary wagon rolling into the streets. It's a comfort food diner on wheels serving burgers (try the portobello) and sandwiches (we recommend the pulled pork grilled cheese). They have parked at the Inwood Tavern, but follow their Facebook and Twitter for exact hours.

Nammi, Jack's Chowhound and Gandolfo's join a lineup of other food trucks parking at prime spots in town, including Green House Truck, one of the first mobile kitchens in the city to serve healthy, gourmet food. Green House Truck chef Ben Hutchison brings a familiar face to the kitchen for many Dallasites, having been in the kitchen for such restaurants as Food Company, Star Canyon, and Routh Street. He's also helping lead the green movement in the food industry--Green House's kitchen is powered from a combination of propane and rechargeable batteries.

City Street Grille has also staked out spots in uptown and downtown Dallas, thanks to their Hot Truck Food Permit. We love their burritos and tacos, they're the perfect eats for late-night dining.  Customers and food bloggers are also raving about their chicken salad, grilled cheese and grilled steak sandwiches. So the next time you see them parked in the Design District, be sure to give those meaty, cheesy treats a try.

Here's hoping these new additions to the food truck scene will help boost the industry. Though they're always a welcome sight at festivals and fairs, we need to see more of them on the road (and preferably, near where we work).
