Man Locking Himself In Airplane Cockpit In Custody
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- Officials say a man who locked himself in an airplane cockpit has voluntarily surrendered to law enforcement.
Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport spokesman Jim Caldwell said Wednesday that Andrew Alessi, a ticketed passenger, forced his way past two American Eagle agents onto a plane around noon. He ran down the jet way and locked himself in the cockpit.
Caldwell said police responded immediately and cut the external power source to the plane so Alessi couldn't start the aircraft.
He says the flight, which was headed to Dallas/Fort Worth, was canceled and passengers were compensated.
FBI agents and Baton Rouge Police officers also surrounded the aircraft. A spokesman with the FBI said they anticipate charging Alessi, of Baton Rouge, with interfering with a flight crew.
