Fort Worth Mayor Returns To Doctor After Bike Accident

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price told staffers she was returning to the doctor after feeling the lingering side effects of a weekend bicycle crash that broke her collarbone and gave her a concussion.

"She's in pain," said Fort Worth spokesman Jason Lamers. "She's got a fracture of the collar bone. She fell on her head and her shoulders Saturday morning. So, we're just waiting on a doctor's appointment I guess because she's got to check on that."

Sources say the mayor was nauseous and having some vision problems Monday. Those are symptoms commonly associated with concussions.

Doctors we spoke with say the symptoms should be treated with caution since they might be signs of more serious problems.

But the doctors also say the symptoms are not reason to be overly concerned.

The spill Price took while riding with her husband Saturday was severe enough to crack the mayor's riding helmet. Price was unconscious when her husband called 9-1-1 for help.

The mayor's staff says despite her symptoms, Price is anxious to get back to work.

Her aides spent Monday rearranging and canceling events on the mayor's schedule. But staff members say Price still has plenty of time to recover.

"There's no City Council meetings for the next three weeks," Lamers said. "Many of the council members are on vacation right now. So it's not too horrible of a time to break your collar bone and have a concussion."

Staff members said late Monday the mayor had no other medical complications from the wreck.
