DFW Artist Gaining Fame For Ceramic Pieces
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - From a studio in the backyard of her University Park home, Lucrecia Waggoner has been quietly making a name for herself in the art world.
"I was doing a lot of functional pottery," she explained. "But, one day, I thought, 'I don't want people to use my pottery. I don't want people to have sushi or saki in little pieces that I made before. So, I started growing as an artist and growing my pottery."
The porcelain ceramics artist has been treading new ground with collectors, as her dynamic installations sell out quickly in Dallas and Mexico City galleries.
"There is only so much I can make with my hands, it's all handmade. Every piece is different and very detailed. It's a very slow, very technical," said Waggoner. But, she is quick to point out, sparse output is not always a bad thing in the art world. "I cannot produce a lot but, luckily for the collector, I cannot produce a lot -- so they are very unique pieces."
Waggoner's latest show -- "Expressions of Nature" -- will be on display through March 23 at the Samuel Lynne Galleries on Dragon Street in the Dallas Design District.
