City Of Dallas Changes To New App For Parking Meter Pay

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Starting today the City of Dallas is changing the way you pay to park.

For almost 80 years drivers had to keep a pocket full of coins to "feed" the meter -- since popping in change was the only way to pay. That all changed in 2013 when the City rolled out a mobile payment option, through the company PayByPhone, allowing people to pay by using an app on their smartphones.

Now, the City has switched to a new vendor called Park Mobile. The change means parkers will need to register with Park Mobile or download their app if they want to use their phone at the estimated 4,500 on-street spaces in the City of Dallas.

Unlike PayByPhone, Park Mobile will not only allow customers to use their credit cards to pay for parking, but will also will also send a notice if time on the meter is about to run out and allow customers to add more time without going outside to their vehicle.

The being-phased-out PayByPhone app will continue to work through Wednesday, after that parkers only digital choice will be the Park Mobile app. Of course, cash is still being accepted and drivers can always drop some change in the meter.
