"Back-In Parking Only" Goes Into Effect In Denton

DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Whether drivers are good at it or not, backing into parking spots in sections of Denton is now a requirement.
Drivers now have to throw it in reverse along East Hickory Street in between Locust Street and Bell Avenue.
"I did just give up!" laughed Angela Williams, a Denton shopper.
Williams is one of many drivers in town trying to get used to the new parking rule.
"The sidewalks are a lot better. I'll give them that. It was bad before," said Dustin Humphreys, a Denton worker.
The point of the new parking rule according to the city is to make it safer for drivers pulling out of their spots and easier on pedestrians who are walking around.
The rule went into effect Monday where police were said to have begun giving out $25 tickets.
"Sounds bogus to me. But whether you nose in or back in, to me it's the same danger, same risk, same difficulty I guess," said John Neff, who was visiting Denton.
A spokesperson for the department said it was waiting another week for drivers to get used to the new rule. So far, only warning tickets have been given out.
"I guess they're going to give out a lot of tickets because there are quite a few people who are just pulling in," said Williams.
Police are expected to begin giving out tickets next week.
