Tigers Starters Lay Solid Foundation
The Tigers continue to lament their lack of offense but the cornerstone for a turnaround seems to have been put in place -- solid starting pitching.
Detroit foundered after jumping out to records of 5-1 and 9-3.
The Tigers have alternated wins and losses for eight consecutive games now and haven't won two in a run since April 18.
There have been bullpen breakdowns, streaky starting pitching, mediocre defense and spotty starting.
"It sounds like a broken record," manager Jim Leyland said, "but we're just not scoring runs. (Drew) Smyly did a great job.
"But we really didn't threaten. We made a lot of easy outs."
