Inconsistent Tigers Have Leyland Puzzled

It's a puzzle Jim Leyland says he can't figure out.

A team the Detroit manager says is good just can't seem to get untracked, muddling along at a .500 pace.

"It's really hard to put your finger on right now," Leyland said Friday night after Oakland pounded Detroit, 11-4.

A night after the Tigers scored 10 runs on 17 hits, they fell behind early and couldn't catch up. At one point mid-game, 10 straight Detroit batters were retired.

"We showed some signs," Leyland said. "I thought we'd really come out (hitting). We actually did, I mean (Austin) Jackson doubled and (Andy) Dirks singled right off the bat. But we only got one run out of that situation, which looked like right there like an inning that could get us going, get 3-4 maybe.
