Burglars Caught On Cameras Meant To Monitor Family's Dogs

By Mark Taylor

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver police are investigating after two men broke into a South Denver home and stole thousands of dollars' worth of valuables.

The burglary happened around 1 p.m. on Monday. The two suspects broke into a home in the 1900 block of South Lafayette Street using a crowbar and the entire robbery was caught on home surveillance cameras.

The family, who wishes to not be identified, told CBS4 they installed Nest drop cameras in order to check on their rescue dogs when they were not home. The cameras recorded the two suspects breaking into the home, making a phone call, and searching for valuables before discovering their every move has been caught on video. The suspects then removed the cameras.

One suspect is seen wearing a Broncos sweater and hat. The other appears to be wearing the shirt of a moving company -- something Denver police say is not uncommon.

"We do sometimes see cases where burglars will pose as utility workers or contractors and things like that in order to gain people's trust or to blend in," Doug Schepman with the Denver Police Department said.
