A mother and her boyfriend have been charged with attempted arson and concealment of a death, after they set the body of her 4-year-old son on fire inside a vacant home in Englewood.
The fire started around 10:15 p.m., on the 2nd floor at the Fountaincrest Condominiums at California Avenue and Greenwood Road in Dolton.
As soon as firefighters arrived on the scene in the 1400 block of West Marquette Road around 9:30 p.m., they smelled an accelerant, indicating the fire inside the vacant home was deliberately set.
James Povolo, 71, of the 1300 block of Dartfourt Court in Naperville, was charged Tuesday with one felony count of arson, according to a statement from DuPage County State's Attorney's office.
Detectives were searching for evidence and interviewing relatives and potential witnesses after finding the body of a 56-year-old man in a building in the 8000 block of South Stony Island Avenue. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office has identified the victim as Edward McArthur Jr.
