The newly retired hockey player and his wife, both animal lovers, are concentrating on their foundation, CBS 2's Rob Johnson reports.
"I am hopeful I will be able to return to the ice and continue playing the game that I love," Bickell says.
Bickell was traded last week to the Hurricanes, along with promising forward Teuvo Teravainen.
