Wolves Suffer Narrow Loss To Peoria In OT

PEORIA, Ill. -- Two third-period goals in 25 seconds allowed the Chicago Wolves to force overtime against the Peoria Rivermen Friday night, but the visitors fell 3-2 in an Illinois Lottery Cup contest at Carver Arena.

Right wing Guillaume Desbiens and center Steve Pinizzotto scored for the Wolves in the third to help Chicago (7-4-2-0) earn a point in the standings.

Peoria (4-7-2-1) got scoring started early. Defenseman Mark Cundari fired a point shot that left wing Evgeny Grachev redirected over Chicago goaltender Eddie Lack's stick at 5:41.

Then it was center Phil McRae lighting the lamp for Peoria while on the power play, tipping a puck left loose in front of Lack into the mesh at 4:34 in the second frame.

Lack (6-3-0) stopped 27 of 30 shots in regulation and overtime.

In the third, Desbiens got the Wolves on the board by batting a puck out of the air and into the net behind Rivermen netminder Jake Allen at 6:39. Pinizzotto followed up with the equalizer 25 seconds later, swatting a puck into the mesh at 7:04.

Allen (4-7-1) posted 35 saves in regulation and overtime.

Knotted at two, the teams headed to overtime where McRae pocketed his second goal of the night on a rifle past Lack at 4:34 to give Peoria the win.

Chicago hosts the Rivermen at 7 p.m. Saturday night at the Allstate Arena.
