Who Had The Better D? '85 Bears Or '13 Seahawks?

(CBS) Naturally, the dominance of Seattle's defense in a 43-8 romp of Denver in Super Bowl XLVIII last night and all season long had many talking about where it stacks up among the all-time great units.

And when the conversation turns in that direction, the famed '85 Bears naturally come up. So who had a better D? We'll never know, but the debate is on. Seattle defensive end Michael Bennett already staked his claim.

"We're the best defense since the '85 Bears," Bennett said, according to CBS Sports.

When asked if the Seahawks would beat those Super Bowl-winning '85 Bears, Bennett replied that they would.

The '85 Bears allowed an average of 12.4 points per game, while the 2013 Seahawks allowed 14.4, according to Both teams allowed 4.4 yards per play. Both allowed 4.8 yards per pass attempt. Of course, context is needed, as this era is more offense-friendly and pass-happy, making Seattle's dominance all the more impressive.

More impressive than the '85 Bears? We can only wonder.
