White Sox Recall Veal, Option Hernandez To Triple-A
(CBS) The White Sox announced Thursday the team has recalled left-handed pitcher Donnie Veal from Triple-A Charlotte. Veal will take the roster spot of Pedro Hernandez, who was optioned to Charlotte following last night's game.
Veal, 27, has gone 6-3 with a 2.08 ERA. He has 53 strikeouts in 29 relief appearances with Charlotte this season, limiting opponents to a .230 (37-161) average.
Veal originally was drafted by the Cubs in the second round of the 2005 draft. He is 34-36 with a 3.73 ERA and 632 strikeouts in 169 games (113 starts) over eight minor-league seasons. Veal also appeared in 19 games in relief with Pittsburgh in 2009, going 1-0 with a 7.16 ERA and 16 strikeouts.
Veal, who will wear uniform No. 46, is the 21st pitcher to appear on the Sox 25-man roster in 2012.
