(CBS) -- The Wheaton College professor who sparked controversy with comments about Christians and Muslims worshipping the same God is leaving the school, reports WBBM's Nancy Harty.
In the statement, Hawkins says she has, "great respect for the Christian liberal arts and the ways that Wheaton College exudes that in its mission, programs, and in the caliber of its employees and students."
A month ago, she said she refused to kowtow to what she called the school's hypocrisy.
"Our love for Jesus compels us to make no peace with oppression because Christianity is political or it's not Christianity," Hawkins said.
Hawkins and Wheaton College will hold a joint news conference Wednesday morning.
