2 teens, firefighter injured in Roseland fire; cause revealed
CHICAGO (CBS)-- Two teens and a firefighter were injured after a fire in the West Roseland neighborhood Wednesday morning.
The fire broke out at a residential building at 11361 S. Edbrooke Avenue. Flames were seen shooting out of the roof.
The Chicago Fire Department confirmed a 17-year-old boy suffered serious burn injuries and a 15-year-old girl suffered minor burns. A firefighter was also taken to a hospital with facial burns.
A resident, who has lived in the home for over 15 years, said he woke up to the smell of smoke. He believes the fire started in the basement.
"I tried to go back in but I couldn't see nothing," he told CBS 2.
He said he saw a small explosion inside the house.
We learned the fire started from careless smoking, according to fire officials.
Four others were able to escape from the fire on their own.
