Watch: Jared Allen Announces Retirement By Riding Horse

(CBS) Jared Allen had the cowboy hat, the horse and a perfect moment to announce his retirement. All that was missing was a sunset to ride off into.

In a quirky 20-second video posted Thursday, Allen announced his retirement after a 12-year NFL career by offering his thanks and then riding off on a horse.

"Well, everyone, I just want to say thank you for an amazing 12-year career," Allen said in the video. "This was the part where I was going to ride off into the sunset, but seeing as how there's no sunset, I'm just going to ride off."

Then, Allen offered a wave and got his horse moving, retiring in a unique way.

Allen, 33, was drafted by the Chiefs, then spent six seasons with the Vikings before joining the Bears in 2014. He recorded 5.5 sacks in 18 games with Chicago, then was traded to Carolina early in the 2015 season, with his attempted move to outside linebacker in the Bears' new 3-4 defense not working well. Allen started 12 games with the Panthers, helping the team to a berth in Super Bowl 50.
