Suspect On Video Swiping Packages From Apartment Vestibule

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police have issued a community after after a man was captured on surveillance video taking packages delivered to apartment vestibules.

Detectives say the lone male suspect took packages on Oct. 11 from an apartment in the 1800 block of North Winnebago Avenue at 10:30 p.m.

He struck again on Oct. 23 in the 1900 block of West Diversey Parkway at 5:50 a.m.

In the video, the man rides to the entrance on West Diversey on a bicycle and appears to pry open the locked door. He then places parcels in a black duffel bag.

Police say the offender is white, or white-Hispanic, 40-50 years old, 5'10", 190 pounds, wearing a black/ blue NY Yankees baseball cap with a white-trimmed brim, blue sweatshirt or jacket, tan pants, gym shoes.

The thief has hacked his way into this building on the 1800 block of North Winnebago more than once.

"A few of weeks ago we started noticing packages delivered in out vestibule gone missing," said Carl Gustas of the building's condo association. "That's when we started checking security tapes and finding the culprit."

Gustas says residents realized beefing up security means more than surveillance.

"The problem isn't with the cameras," he said. "The problem is securing the facility."
