Supertri Chicago triathletes swim, bike, and run
Parts of DuSable Lake Shore Drive and Lower Wacker Drive in Chicago were closed Sunday morning because of the Supertri Chicago — the race formerly known as the Chicago Triathlon.
A record-breaking 9,000 athletes competed on Sunday.
Those who took part swam 1,500 meters in Lake Michigan, bicycled nearly 25 miles, and then ran a 10k.
The swimming portion of the race did not change for high waves on Sunday, although organizers monitored water conditions.
The first finisher overall was Oliver Smith, 30, of Chicago, with a chip time of 1:55:35.
Alexander Shwe, 26, of Chicago followed with a chip time of 1:59:53. Coming in third was Aaron Portman, 26, of Chicago, with a chip time of 2:02:17.
Among the women, Hope Hoffman, 28, of Chicago, came in first with a chip time of 2:17:19, followed by Claire Wan, 25, of Chicago, with a chip time of 2:22:57, and Camille Buchanan, 24, of Bartlett, with a chip time of 2:23:40.
