Several Dogs Missing After Dog Day Care Van Carjacked

(CBS) -- A carjacking on the Near North Side has a handful of dog owners fearful for their pets, reports WBBM's Bob Roberts.

The silver 2002 Chrysler Town and Country carjacked at gunpoint about 4:30 near Grand and Ogden belongs to the dog daycare service Urban Outsitters. Inside were between five and nine dogs.

Rob Sayre owns Jadyn, one of the dogs that were in the back of the van.

"They were doing their daily run and going to drop to their homes and the van was carjacked at gunpoint and they took the van," Sayre said.

Sayre and a second dog owner say police told them that once the carjackers realize they have someone's pets in the back seat, they will usually abandon the vehicle. But that's little comfort to Sayre, who says he fears that by the time the van is found, the dogs will freeze and die.

"I'm more so just worried that the dogs are gonna be in the van overnight or for a long period of time," said Urban Out Sitters owner Joseph Giannini.

Police are investigating.

The missing silver van has an Illinois license plate R188669.
