AURORA, Ill. (CBS/WBBM) -- The search for a missing Aurora boy has now moved to at least three states.

As WBBM Newsradio 780's Dave Berner reports, Timmothy Pitzen, 6, was last seen with his mother, Amy Fry-Pitzen, at the Kalahari Resort in the Wisconsin Dells.

This was before Fry-Pitzen committed suicide. She was found dead on Saturday in a Rockford motel room after slitting her wrists.

Fry-Pitzen left a note behind indicating that Timmothy was fine, and in the care of unnamed people. Aurora police are talking to friends and relatives of the mother, but so far, there has been no sign of the boy.

"We're working with authorities in Iowa and Wisconsin and we are continuing to cultivate other individuals that she's (his mother) associated with and we're trying to talk to those individuals,'' Aurora police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said.

The mother was last seen alive at Sullivan Foods in Winnebago Friday night. The boy was not with her.

The boy's grandfather, Dan Pitzen, says the family is struggling to cope with the apparent suicide of Amy Fry-Pitzen and the torture of not knowing where Timmothy is.

"We'd like him back. He needs his father," Pitzen told CBS 2's Mai Martinez.

Amy and Timmothy were originally reported missing about 1 p.m. Thursday by Amy's husband, who is also the boy's father, from their home in the 400 block of North Highland Avenue, according to Ferrelli.

The two apparently visited the Brookfield Zoo on Wednesday and then checked into the Key Lime Cove Resort in Gurnee on Wednesday night.

No one heard from Amy or Timmothy until Friday afternoon when she contacted several family members and acquaintances by phone between approximately noon and 1:30 p.m., according to Ferrelli.

During those calls, Amy said that she and Timmothy were fine and were not in danger. Timothy also talked to at least one of the relatives and did not seem to be in any distress.

Aurora Police say that cell phone records indicate that the calls and texts were placed from the Sterling/Rock Falls, Ill. area.

Detectives were able to ascertain that Amy checked herself into the Rockford Inn which is located in the 3800 block of 11th Street in Rockford, between 11:15 p.m. and 11:30 on Friday night. It was there where she committed suicide.

At the time she checked in, she apparently was not accompanied by Timothy.

Timmothy is described as 4 feet 2 inches tall and 70 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing green shorts and a Spider-Man backpack.

Anyone with information is asked to call Aurora police.
