Search Continues In Gary For Woman, Child

GARY, Ind. (CBS) -- The search for a mentally challenged Gary woman and her toddler nephew is entering a sixth day.

The 21-year-old woman and her two year old nephew disappeared on Saturday.

Today, Gary police were expanding the search. About 60 officers from several departments will search a 20 block area in west Gary, knocking on doors and searching abandoned buildings.

The woman, Diamond Bynum, only has the mental capacity of a seven year old, family members said.

She may not be familiar with the area. Her family moved to Gary in February.

"We are hoping for help from the community to find them," said, Diamond's father, Eugene Bynum Jr. "We are prayerful. It's been a long time."

Police say that Diamond might have taken her 2-year-old nephew, King Walker, to a nearby local store and then got lost.

Detectives and Bynum's family have been searching for them since Saturday near the family's home in the 500 block of Matthews Street, on the west side of Gary.

On Monday, the family was passing out flyers near a McDonald's at 5th and Grant.

Diamond and King were fed by employees there when the went into the restaurant and said they were hungry.
