Residents Evacuated After South Side Gas Leak

CHICAGO (CBS) -- One person was injured and residents were evacuated on Tuesday morning following a gas leak on the Southeast Side.

Firefighters responded to the leak near 107th Street and Avenue D in the East Side neighborhood.

A crew was excavating in the area of 10657 S. Avenue D about 11:15 a.m. when a gas line ruptured, police said.

The two-inch gas line was shut down, and the situation secured about noon.

One person was injured and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County
