(CBS) Carlos Boozer is off to Los Angeles to play with Kobe Bryant.
The Lakers won Thursday's blind bidding process for Boozer, who the Bulls used the amnesty provision on Tuesday, ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported.
The Bulls vigorously tried to send Boozer to the Lakers in a sign-and-trade for big man Pau Gasol, who Chicago instead had to sign with cap space.
It wasn't immediately known how much Los Angeles bid to win Boozer's rights. He was owed $16.8 million next season in the final year of his contract. Whatever the difference is between the Lakers' bid and that $16.8 million, the Bulls will have to pay the remainder to Boozer -- though by using the amnesty provision, that number doesn't count on the salary cap or luxury tax figures.
Boozer averaged 13.7 points and 8.3 rebounds last season in Chicago, where he spent the past four season.
