Rafter Reported Missing On Lake Michigan

(CHICAGO) -- Authorities are searching for a man who may have gone missing while rafting on Lake Michigan Tuesday night.

The 54-year-old man was with his brother at the beach near the 5700 block of South Lake Shore Drive about 9:45 p.m., police said.

The man's brother last saw him going into the water with a raft and then took a nap, police said. When he woke up, his brother had not returned.

The Chicago Police Marine Unit and the Chicago Fire Department searched the area, but did not find the man, police said.

The search was suspended early Wednesday because of poor visibility along the lakefront, said police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.

"The search will resume as soon as weather conditions allow," Mirabelli said.
