Police: Man Tried To Run Over Officers During High-Speed Chase In Western Suburbs
(CBS) -- A man who just got out of jail yesterday is now accused of leading police on a high-speed chase in the western suburbs today, reports WBBM's Terry Keshner.
Police say the man had just been behind bars in Chicago on a battery charge and then was wanted for domestic battery in Westmont.
Police tried to arrest him around 11:45 this morning and he sped away into Hillside. Hillside Police Chief Joe Lukaszek says he was then chased into Berkeley.
"They thought that they had him cornered in there," Lukaszek said. "Officers exited their vehicle to take him into custody and then he tried to run over a police officer. Shots were fired at the vehicle and the vehicle continued fleeing from officers down Butterfield to Midwest Road where he tried to run over an Oakbrook Terrace police officer at the intersection and then ultimately crashed at 22nd and Midwest Road."
Police say charges are pending against the man, who has an extensive record.
No one was seriously hurt in the police chase.
