Police: Girl Stabbed Uncle To Death During Fight

CHICAGO (CBS) - A teenage girl stabbed her uncle to death during an argument in the Logan Square neighborhood, police said.
At 10:10 p.m. Wednesday, the 34-year-old uncle was arguing with his 18-year-old niece at their home in the 1700 block of North Sawyer Avenue, according to Shakespeare District Police Captain Marc Buslik.
As he picked up a bottle of hot sauce to hit her with, she pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the neck, Buslik said.
The uncle is identified as James Daniels, 34, of the 3700 block of West Ferdinand Street. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
An autopsy Thursday determined Daniels died of a stab wound to the neck and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner's office.
Although a Grand Central Area detective said the two lived together with other people in a second floor apartment on the Sawyer Avenue block, the medical examiner cites a different home address for Daniels.
There have been no prior reported domestic violence incidents at the Sawyer Avenue address.
The niece remains in custody at 2:50 p.m. Thursday, although no charges have yet been filed.
