(STMW) -- A 74-year-old man was found dead after a house fire early Sunday in north suburban Northbrook.
Firefighters responded to a house fire in the 1300 block of Edgewood Lane at 1:14 a.m., according to Northbrook Fire Chief Jose Torres. The single-family ranch home was "heavily involved in fire."
Lawrence B. Costello, who lived in the home, was discovered dead during a search by firefighters, according to Torres and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
The man's wife was able to escape the blaze, Torres said. A pet cat also succumbed to the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but is not thought to be suspicious, Torres said. No firefighters were hurt.
"We're treating it as more of an accidental fire," Torres said. The home is uninhabitable.
